The cruise arrived to Miami very early in the morning. We were out from the ship around 08:30. Both getting on and off the ship was very easy by the way. The port in Fort Lauderdale is big and modern. I would have thought that the waiting time would be much longer.
We took a taxi to Fort Lauderdale airport where we had rented a car. The airport is very close so after having bought a coffee in Starbucks we were ready to drive towards Orlando around 10:00. There were quite some traffic in the beginning, but when we were out of Fort Lauderdale the drive was easy. Just very many toll stations so prepare cash.
Our hotel in Orland was close to Universal studios. The traffic in Orlando is bad, so plan on where you are going and chose an hotel close to your main attraction. If you are going many days to Disney - choose an hotel close to Disney.
When we arrived to Orlando it was around 13:30. We went to have lunch in Millers Ale house. They have burgers, pasta, salads. The kids thought it was a good restaurant. I was perhaps a bit disturbed by all the TV-screens on the walls showing different American foodball games, but it was also a bit fun to watch, so why not :-) My pasta was actually quite good.

preparing for halloween |
After lunch we changed into our costumes and drove to Disney world for their Halloween event. You have to buy a separate ticket for the event and it starts at 19:00. However you can get in already around 16:00 and go on the rides. When you get to Disney you have to park quite far from the actual park. Then you take a small tram which takes you to yet another train which takes you to the park entrance. Expect that it will take some time before you get to the park.

most people were dressed up |
When we entered the park we were given a special armband which showed that we had paid for the halloween event. We were then ushered towards an alley where only people with armbands were allowed to go, we were given trick and treat bags and our first candy!
The kids were over the moon. During the first hours we went on a few rides, and the queues were not too bad. Less than Disney in Paris. However, since we had already been in Paris, we didn't feel that we had to go on all rides. Actually the both parks are almost identical!

in the beginning of the evening it was raining quite heavily |
When the halloween event started at 19:00 the kids first wanted to go trick and treating so we went to the different stands where you get candy. And boy do you get candy. Handfuls at every stand. Especially Benjamin couldn't believe his luck.

favourite ride |
After our bags were getting full we went on a few more rides, and also saw the halloween show which were good. The parade is great and also the fireworks. After the fireworks the kids were so tired that we decided to go back. If you are less tired you can use the time to also do a meet and greet with many Disney characters, some of which are only out for halloween.
What I thought was very good was that there are plenty of water fountains around the park so you can fill up your bottles. It was still very hot in the evening.
